About Toby
Our son Toby
died in February 2006, one week after his first
birthday.
At that time I knew very little
about SIDS and Kids. Like many people I was aware of Red Nose Day,
but not much more.
My understanding was that SIDS and Kids
was a research and support organisation solely focused on Sudden
Infant Death Syndrome.
Toby did not die from SIDS. It
was a simple, almost unbelievable accident that could happen in any
home, at any time and unpreventable. There were no warning signs, no
illness to treat and no-one to blame.
Despite my wife and I having
large and supportive families, we were lost. Lost in our grief, lost
in how to support each other and lost how to explain to Toby’s 3 ˝
year old big brother, what had happened to his best mate.
The impact of a child’s death
is staggering. Simply getting through each day is struggle enough,
without the added pressure of living. Trying to return to “normal”
life again sometimes seems an impossible challenge. Simple things we
take for granted, such as going to work or doing the weekly
shopping, become the most incredibly difficult tasks.
SIDS and Kids came to our
rescue. They have provided us with hope for the future. This hope
comes through their grief counseling, support groups and literature
for all those affected by Toby’s tragic death. These services have
been available for not only my wife Penny, my son and I, but also to
Toby’s grandparents, uncles, aunties and cousins and are provided
free of charge
As we continue the long journey
of healing, we ask you to help us provide hope to others who
tragically will find themselves in similar circumstances.
By supporting the Toby McCredie
Golf day, your contribution will go directly to helping SIDS and
Kids continue to provide this invaluable
service.
